Day One in South Africa – The Journey Begins
After a 33-hour journey from Phoenix with stopovers in Los Angeles and London Heathrow, we finally arrived in Johannesburg on Saturday morning. Even though we were exhausted from the long travel day, the excitement of finally being in South Africa completely took over.
The InterContinental hotel was literally just steps away from the airport exit. After such a long journey, not needing another long transfer felt like a dream.
When we arrived at the hotel, one of our rooms was already ready for us, which allowed us to drop off our luggage, relax for a bit, freshen up, and settle in before beginning our adventure. It was highly recommended that we start with a good cup of coffee to help recharge after the long international journey and honestly, that first cup of coffee tasted amazing.
Even though we were tired, there was an energy and excitement that comes with knowing you are finally in Africa. Just taking in the surroundings and realizing the adventure had officially begun made every hour of travel worth it.
That evening, we enjoyed an incredible dinner at Quills, the restaurant located right inside the hotel. From the moment we sat down, the experience was exceptional. Our waiter, Cello, provided outstanding service and truly made the evening memorable. The food was spectacular to say the least, beautifully prepared, flavorful, and the perfect way to begin our South African journey.
After dinner, we were finally able to unwind and reflect on the day. The long travel journey was behind us, and the adventure ahead was just beginning.
Day one was about arrival, rest, incredible food, and the excitement of knowing that so many unforgettable experiences were still to come.
Stay tuned for Day Two.
